Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier opening

ATP Krakow, leading a group of architectural and engineering teams from several European countries, has completed work on the retail section of Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier. The scale and innovation of the project make it unique, attracting interest from both residents and visitors to the city.

The project comprises 13 buildings with various functions – commercial, gastronomic, cultural, hotel, and office – with a total area of 419,000 m². The complex also includes a cruise ship terminal and an underground bus station.

One of the project's most distinctive features is the unique, glass roof structure spanning the passageways connecting the individual buildings. Inspired by the nearby Elbe River, its geometry serves both practical and aesthetic purposes. The variety of materials used for the façades of the individual buildings emphasises their respective functions and reflects the character of each part of the district. Inside, visitors can relax amongst trees and works of art.

This is the first large-scale project to receive preliminary certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for sustainable construction sites and logistics. Strict environmental criteria were applied during construction. All buildings are BREEAM® Excellent certified, several office buildings have achieved DGNB Gold certification, and one has obtained LEED certification. The entire complex has been fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.

ATP Krakow was the lead architect, coordinating the work of design offices from several European countries and using modern technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modeling). The office’s responsibilities included preparing the executive design for the F3 office building, a multi-level underground car park, retail areas, and interior design in cooperation with the Contours team.
